Karunanidhi Supporters Pray for His Speedy Recovery at His Ancestral Residence in Coimbatore

Coimbatore, July 30: Thousands of supporters of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi prayed at his ancestral residence in Coimbatore on Monday. Karunanidhi, 94, was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kauvery Hospital on Friday and is now recovering. On Sunday, the Kauvery Hospital in its statement informed that Karunanidhiâs vital signs are normalising and he is recovering after a âtransient setbackâ.
The hospital on Friday informed that he was brought there after his blood pressure had dropped. âHis blood pressure has been stabilised with medical management and he continues to be monitored and treated by the panel of experts,â the hospital said.
Scores of supporters gathered outside Chennai's Kauvery hospital on Sunday evening amid rumours that party chief M Karunanidhiâs health has deteriorated. Security was increased outside the hospital as hundreds of supporters continued to gather. Karunanidhiâs son MK Stalin and senior party leader A Raja and appealed to people to not believe in rumours.
âThere was an unexpected setback in his health but after intense medical care, heâs normalising and a team of doctors is continuously monitoring him", Karunanidhiâs son MK Stalin said.
On Thursday, doctors treating the DMK Chief said his health was on a âslight declineâ but on Saturday, the hospital said his health condition was stable with âongoing active medical supportâ. The former Tamil Nadu chief minister was admitted to the hospital on Friday after his blood pressure dropped.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday visited the Kauvery hospital to inquire about the health condition of M Karunanidhi. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko and spiritual leader Jaggi Vasudev also visited the ailing leader in the hospital.
Karunanidhi was being treated for age-related ailments and a urinary tract infection. He is 94 years old. The veteran leader has been weak since October 2016 when he underwent a procedure to change his tracheostomy tube as part of an attempt to improve his breathing.
