Alappuzha, June 15: In a shocking development, a women police officer in Kerala's Alappuzha district on Saturday died after she was set on fire by a man who poured petrol on her. The incident took place near victim's house in Mavelikkara, 40 km from Alappuzha, this afternoon. According to reports, the victim, identified as Saumya, was on her way back home after duty. The attacker, who came by car, poured petrol on Saumya and set her ablaze. The attacker, who also suffered burn wounds, was soon arrested by cops and taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the cause for the attack is not yet known. K.M. Tomy, Alappuzha District Police Chief, said that the accused has been taken into custody. “We have launched a probe and further details will be revealed later,” he said. According to The Hindu sources, the accused has been identified as a police officer. However, his identity is yet to be revealed.
