A 36-year-old tourist from Kerala has gone missing during a trek in the Tadiandamol hills in Kodagu district, prompting an extensive search operation involving drones and additional personnel. The woman, identified as GS Sharanya, was last seen on April 2 after setting out on a trek in the forested region.

Sharanya, an IT professional travelling solo, had been staying at a private homestay in Kakkabe village. Authorities said she joined a group of trekkers after initially seeking permission to trek alone, but was reported missing when the group returned later in the day. The Karnataka government has intensified efforts to locate the missing tourist, deploying forest officials, search teams, and drone surveillance in the dense terrain.

State Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre said additional personnel have been mobilised to support the ongoing operation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also directed officials to step up the search. The region’s difficult terrain and wildlife presence, including elephants, have added to the complexity of the operation. Karnataka Shocker: 18-Year-Old Girl From Hubballi Goes Missing After Allegedly Eloping With 50-Year-Old Man in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, Case Registered.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to his Karnataka counterpart, urging swift and coordinated action. In his letter, Vijayan expressed concern over Sharanya’s disappearance and requested personal intervention to strengthen the search efforts. He called for increasing the strength of search teams to ensure her safe return at the earliest.

According to reports, Sharanya had initially sought permission from forest authorities to trek alone but was advised against it due to safety risks, particularly from wild elephants. She subsequently joined a group of trekkers exploring the Tadiandamol trail. However, she was found missing when the group returned to the foothills, raising concerns about how she may have become separated.
