New Delhi, January 18: Passengers travelling in the Tata Jat Express train, who were reportedly returning from the Kumbh Mela, were robbed on Thursday by armed men near Delhi. Reports inform that the incident took place around 2 am between Badli and Holambi Kalan in the national capital when robbers looted the passengers on board the Express train at gunpoint. Passengers alleged that mobile phones, jewellery and cash were looted from them.

According to Railways, the train was attended by RPF and GRP at Sonipat station at 01:55 hrs, where a passenger of S-8, Ramnath Maurya, reported loot of Rs. 1,000 and small injury in his left hand. According to a PTI report, the passengers are given preliminary treatment at Panipat. The railways stated that the victim said he would lodge (an) FIR at the destination station. “The train was not escorted by the RPF. Two similar incidences were reported to have taken place on board a train on Thursday while nearing the national capital. According to reports, the robbery in the Jammu-Delhi Duronto Express took place at Badli on the outskirts of the capital, when the train was waiting for the signal to proceed to the main station in Delhi. The incident came into light after a passenger wrote about the theft on the railways' complaints portal, alleging how they were robbed at knifepoint. The Northern Railways, however, said that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has early leads in the case and action will be taken against the robbers. According to passengers, the horror lasted for 10 to 15 minutes before the robbers jumped off the train.
