At least two people have died and an estimated six to eight others remain trapped after a landslide collapsed onto residential structures in Mumbai’s Kurla area early Wednesday morning. Triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, the debris crashed onto tenement houses in the Chirag Nagar locality, prompting a multi-agency emergency rescue operation.

Two people were killed and several others were feared trapped after a landslide struck the Gaushiya Chawl area of Chirag Nagar in Mumbai’s Kurla early Wednesday morning following heavy rainfall. Rescue teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, NDRF, ambulance services and civic authorities were deployed at the site to search for those trapped under the debris, PTI reported.
Landslide Reported Early Morning
The incident was reported at around 3:48 am at Gaushiya Chawl, according to civic officials. The landslide brought debris down onto residential structures in the area, with initial reports indicating that six to eight people could be trapped. Two people were feared dead, while rescue personnel continued clearing the debris and searching for survivors. Two Injured Taken to Hospital
Two injured teenagers, identified as 18-year-old Sohel Ansari and 14-year-old Mohamad Ansari, were taken to the civic-run Bhabha Hospital in Kurla. Officials said both were in stable condition. Other reports identified the two deceased as Sahil Ansari, 28, and 14-year-old Mohamad Samir. They were declared brought dead at Rajawadi Hospital. Multi-Agency Rescue Operation Underway
Fire brigade personnel, police officers, NDRF teams, ambulance workers and BMC staff were involved in the search-and-rescue operation. Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde also visited the location to oversee the response.
The incident comes amid heavy monsoon rainfall in Mumbai. Authorities are continuing rescue operations and assessing the situation in the affected area as efforts remain focused on locating anyone who may still be trapped beneath the debris.
