Lalji Tandon Dies at 85: President Ramnath Kovind, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari and Others Express Their Condolences

New Delhi, July 21: Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon died at the age of 85 years at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on Tuesday. Following his demise, President Ramnath Kovind, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Smriti Irani and others expressed their condolences.

Expressing his condolences, President Ramnath Kovind took to Twitter and wrote, "In the passing away of Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Lal Ji Tandon, we have lost a legendary leader who combined cultural sophistication of Lucknow and acumen of a national stalwart. I deeply mourn his death. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends." Also, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu expressed his condolences. He wrote on Twitter:

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also took to Twitter and wrote, "Tandanji, highly sociable by nature, was also very popular among the activists. People of Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh still appreciate the development work done by them in various positions. May God provide patience and strength to all bereaved families in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!"

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman too expressed her condolences and wrote:

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Ashutosh Tandon took to Twitter to announce about his father's demise. The condition of Lalji Tandon was reported to be serious and he was in the ventilator in his last few days. As per reports, he was first admitted to Medanta on June 11 following complaints of fever with difficulty in urination. Later, he was diagnosed with liver and urine infection.
