According to police, a pet shop was operating on the ground floor of the building, while the upper floor housed a gaming zone where employees worked on software related to games.
As the fire spread through the structure, rescuers focused on bringing animals trapped inside the pet shop to safety. Videos and images from the scene showed emergency responders and locals carrying animals out of the affected premises as smoke billowed from the building. Four Dead as Rescue Operation Continues
Officials confirmed that at least four people died in the fire. Rescue teams continued searching the premises amid concerns that more people could have been trapped inside when the blaze erupted.
Initial reports had suggested the building housed a coaching institute. However, senior police officials later clarified that there was neither a coaching centre nor a library operating from the premises.
The fire is believed to have started in the lower portion of the building before rapidly spreading upward, although investigators have not yet established the exact cause.
Fire department teams launched an extensive operation to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. Multiple fire tenders and specialised firefighting equipment were deployed as crews worked to extinguish the flames and search the smoke-filled structure.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who visited the site, said reports of additional people being trapped were yet to be confirmed. "There is unconfirmed information that four to five people may be trapped, but everyone else has been evacuated safely," Pathak said.
The incident prompted a response from Yogi Adityanath, who directed officials to immediately reach the scene and accelerate relief efforts. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office, Adityanath instructed authorities to ensure timely rescue operations and adequate medical treatment for the injured.
"Ensure that relief and rescue work is carried out swiftly and that the injured receive proper treatment," the Chief Minister directed, according to the CMO statement. He also asked officials to continuously monitor the situation and remain vigilant until rescue operations were completed.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Police and fire department officials are expected to conduct a detailed investigation once the site is fully secured and cooling operations are completed. Senior administrative and police officials remained at the scene throughout the day, overseeing rescue efforts and assessing the extent of damage caused by the blaze.
