Branch Cordoned Off as Police Review Security Footage

Following the gunfire inside the branch premises, emergency police responders reached the site to secure the area and initiate technical surveillance. Senior officers directed the branch to suspend operations temporarily while ballistic experts and forensic teams collected physical evidence from the crime scene.

Investigators are scanning through indoor closed-circuit television recordings to establish the sequence of events leading up to the argument and track the escape route used by the shooter. Statements from bank staff and security personnel present during business hours are also being recorded to identify the assailant.

Anti-Drug Activist Shot Dead in Mansa District

The incident comes close to the heels of yet another shooting incident in Punjab, in which an anti-drug activist was allegedly shot dead by a medical store owner in the Mansa district.

According to police, Parminder Singh Jhota was questioning the drug store owner about the alleged illegal sale of addictive drugs to an individual. He was also recording the confrontation.

In the video, which is now making rounds online, Jhota can be heard noting that the shop owner had whipped out a pistol. Within seconds, he allegedly opened fire, leaving the activist severely injured. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Political Backlash Over Law and Order

The incident has triggered a major political backlash against the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, especially after Jhota’s father accused the administration of failing to protect his son.

The consecutive firing incidents in Amritsar and Mansa have intensified opposition scrutiny over the state's law-and-order machinery, with political leaders questioning arms proliferation and calling for stricter enforcement against violent offenders.
