Lucknow, August 13: Reminiscent of the Nirbhaya case, a final-year engineering student was brutally raped in a moving car after being abducted near Lucnknow's Sikandra area. The victim was forcibly dragged into the vehicle by a former student of the same college on the evening of August 10, who then tied her hands and legs before assaulting her. After the attack, the victim was left in a semi-nude state near an intersection on the Agra-Delhi highway. The brutal crime has triggered a manhunt by the Agra police to apprehend the suspect, who is currently on the run.
According to a Times of India report, the accused, who graduated a year earlier, had reportedly shown interest in the victim during their college days at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Agra, seeking to establish a relationship. After she rejected his advances, he allegedly retaliated by filing a false complaint against her with their department head, leading to her marksheet being withheld. On the evening of August 10, the victim was standing near the Kargil intersection in Sikandra when the accused approached her in a car. He forcibly dragged her into the vehicle after she refused to enter willingly. Once inside, the accused tied her hands and legs, pulled down the car curtains, and raped her while playing loud music to drown out any sounds, as reported by ETV Bharat. The victim was left in a semi-nude state near the Agra-Delhi highway after the sexual assault. The following day, the victim reported the assault to Sikandra police station, where an FIR was registered under BNS sections 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation) after a medical examination confirmed the rape. Reports indicate that the accused had a history of relationships with multiple women and had targeted the victim after she refused his advances. A manhunt is underway for the suspect, who remains at large.
