Nagpur, February 21: Authorities in Nagpur have launched a comprehensive investigation into a suspected paper leak after the Maharashtra State Board Class 12 Chemistry question paper was allegedly circulated on social media shortly before the examination on Wednesday.

The incident came to light at the St. Ursula Girls' High School and Junior College examination centre. Invigilators became suspicious of a female student who requested multiple visits to the washroom during the test. Upon conducting a search, school officials recovered a smartphone from the student. A subsequent review of the device revealed a WhatsApp group containing 15 students where the Chemistry paper had been shared approximately one hour before the official start time. Preliminary police inquiries suggest the involvement of a teacher from a private coaching institute, who is accused of leaking the paper in exchange for financial payments. Further investigation of the seized device indicates that the Physics paper, conducted earlier on February 16, may have been compromised in a similar manner. The Nagpur Police have registered a formal case at the Sadar Police Station and are currently questioning the students involved to identify the mastermind behind the racket. While the Maharashtra State Board has not yet announced a re-examination, officials are reviewing the extent of the circulation to determine if the breach was localized or widespread.
