Maharashtra Increases PUC Certificate Fees by 20% After Years of Stable Rates
Maharashtra's Transport Department has hiked PUC certificate fees by 20 per cent. Two-wheeler tests now cost INR60 (up from INR 50), petrol three-wheelers INR 120, petrol/CNG four-wheelers INR 150, and diesel vehicles INR 180. Centers must display new rates and 'Vayuveg' squads will monitor compliance.
Motorists across Maharashtra will now pay higher fees for Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, as the state transport department has announced a 20 per cent upward revision in testing charges. All authorised testing centres across the state have been instructed to immediately implement the updated rate structure.
Revised PUC Fee Structure

A PUC certificate is a mandatory compliance requirement under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules for all petrol, diesel, and CNG vehicles operating on public roads. The fee adjustment follows persistent representations from the Maharashtra State PUC Centre Owners Association, which had formally requested an increase in testing charges.
In response, the Transport Department established a three-member committee to evaluate the feasibility of the request. The panel reviewed prevailing rates across other states alongside operational overheads before submitting its recommendation for a revision. Enforcement and Compliance Monitoring
To maintain transparency, centre operators have been instructed to prominently display boards showing the revised fee schedule at their respective locations. Transport officials have been directed to oversee proper implementation and ensure that no vehicle owners are overcharged. Additionally, the department’s "Vayuveg" flying squads have been deployed to monitor compliance statewide.
