Maharashtra: Wrestler Ashwini Paul Dies After Jumping From Naldurg Fort With 3 Children
A national-level wrestler and two of her young children died after allegedly jumping into a 100-foot gorge from the historic Naldurg Fort in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district. The athlete, identified as Ashwini Manohar Paul, died at the scene alongside her five-and-a-half-year-old son.

Incident at Naldurg Fort
The incident took place on Thursday, September 3, when Ashwini, 30, visited Naldurg Fort with her three young children. According to reports, she allegedly jumped with the children from the fort’s Upli Buruj, a high point overlooking a deep gorge. Police and emergency personnel were alerted after the incident. Ashwini and Ajinkya died at the scene. The injured twins, Kranti and Veera, were taken to a hospital before being shifted to the Government Hospital in Dharashiv for further treatment.
Kranti Dies During Treatment
Kranti, one of Ashwini’s twin daughters, later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Her sister Veera survived the fall but remains in critical condition. Ashwini Paul Was a National-Level Wrestler
Ashwini was known in Maharashtra’s wrestling circles and was popularly referred to as “Maharashtra’s Tigress”. During her sporting career, she won five gold and six silver medals at the national level, according to reports. Her death, along with that of her two children, has led to grief in the state’s sporting community.
Father Alleges Harassment
Ashwini’s father has alleged that she faced continuous mental and physical harassment from her husband and in-laws. Police are investigating the allegations and are examining the circumstances that preceded the incident. The precise reason behind Ashwini’s alleged decision has not yet been established.
Police Investigation Underway
A case has been registered at Naldurg Police Station. Investigators are working to establish the sequence of events and determine what led to the incident.
