The incident occurred around 8:12 PM when a leak was detected in a tanker carrying approximately 28 tonnes of benzene on Mahul Road. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), local police, and civic disaster management teams immediately reached the scene and cordoned off a 500-meter radius around the vehicle to ensure public safety. To mitigate risks, emergency personnel initiated a decanting operation, safely transferring the hazardous liquid into an empty tanker. The transfer process was successfully concluded by 10:20 PM. Both tankers were subsequently moved to the nearby Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) refinery premises.
Benzene is a colorless, highly flammable hydrocarbon widely used in industrial chemical manufacturing.
