Two people were killed and five others injured on Saturday night after a massive Ganesh idol of the 'Bhuleshwar Cha Raja' mandal overturned during an arrival procession in South Mumbai. The incident took place around 9:50 PM on Balaram Merchant Road (Dr. Atmaram Merchant Road) near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk in the Bhuleshwar area. Devotees had gathered in large numbers to welcome the over 22-foot-tall idol as it was being transported from workshops in Lalbaug toward its pandal.

According to local authorities and emergency officials, the structure holding the heavy idol became unbalanced, causing it to slip from its frame and collapse onto the accompanying crowd. Preliminary reports from the Mumbai Fire Brigade suggest that structural defects in the welding frame holding the idol may have contributed to the fall as it neared its destination. Emergency responder teams—including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, and 108 Emergency Ambulance services—swiftly mobilized to the scene to conduct rescue operations and transport victims to nearby medical facilities. 2 Dead, Five Injured After Ganpati Idol Falls During Arrival Procession in Mumbai's Bhuleshwar.

Civic officials confirmed that two individuals were declared brought dead upon arrival at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Sanket Nevshe (33)—who was the president of the Ganpati mandal—and Brijesh Hemant Joshi (30). Five other devotees sustained varying degrees of injuries. Among the injured are two minor girls, aged 5 and 7 years. The D.B. Marg Police Station has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events and structural failures leading to the incident.
