Mumbai, December 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very light to light rain in Mumbai as well as adjoining areas like Thane, Palghar and Navi Mumbai. The IMD said that light rains are expected only for Sunday but cloudy skies are likely till December 23. Light to moderate rain showers is also expected in Raigad on Sunday. IMD Mumbai scientist SG Kamble, Speaking to The Free Press Journal said, "due to the formation of a low-pressure in the Arabian Sea and upper-air cyclonic circulation over west Madhya Pradesh, light rain activity has been predicted along the Konkan coast and slowly moving inland over the state between Sunday and Monday."

Private weather forecasting agency Skymet has also predicted a similar forecast of unseasonal rains in several parts of Maharashtra, due to low-pressure area in the south-central Arabian Sea, which will govern airflow and bring up moist to coastal Maharashtra.

Earlier this month, the city had received rainfall when Cyclone Ockhi went past it on December 5 and December 6. Around 53.8mm rain was recorded in the suburbs and 82.2 mm in South Mumbai. It was the all-time highest December rain for Mumbai.
