Patna, September 1: In brazen violation of jail manuals, a murder convict celebrated his birthday inside a jail in Bihar and threw a party for inmates. The matter came to fore after a video of Pintu Tiwari's birthday party inside the jail surfaced on social media. Pintu Tiwari is serving a life sentence in connection with the double murder case of two engineers in Darbhanga in 2015. The video shows Tiwari cutting his birthday cake inside the jail. The inmates were later served mutton and rice. A caterer was called inside the jail premises to make arrangements for the party, India Today reported. After the party was over, Tiwari and other prisoners were seen enjoying sweets. The video proves there was a mobile phone inside their cell which was used to shoot the entire birthday celebration.

After the video went viral, IG (prisons) Mithilesh Mishra ordered an inquiry into the incident and sought a report from the district and jail administration. He said it will be investigated how the mobile phone reached inside the prisoner's cell. In July this year, raids were conducted across all jails in Bihar. Each and every barrack was being thoroughly searched by the local police.

Last year in October, several mobile phones and other incriminating materials had been recovered during raids conducted in all prisons in the state.
