The deceased has been identified as Yamini Krishna Lal Yadav, while the accused has been identified as 41-year-old Krishna Lal Yadav. According to police, the incident occurred in front of the couple's two young children after Krishna Lal returned home from work in an intoxicated state and demanded that his wife prepare food. Yamini refused to cook as she was preparing to attend a dance class organized within their housing society, triggering a heated argument. The dispute escalated into physical violence, during which the accused allegedly struck Yamini in the neck and abdomen. Following the assault, Yamini complained of severe pain and swelling. While her husband reportedly attempted to buy painkillers from a nearby pharmacy, the store was closed. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her hospitalization, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities initially registered a case of accidental death. However, police altered the course of the investigation after receiving the post-mortem report, which revealed a fractured neck bone, signs of strangulation, and serious damage to her abdominal organs and intestines. Speaking to reporters, the victim's brother stated that the couple had a history of routine domestic arguments, but the family did not intervene at Yamini's request. Following the forensic disclosure, Nagpur Police interrogated Krishna Lal and subsequently booked him under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
