New Delhi, January 4: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday condemned the attack on Nankana Sahib Gurdwara, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, in Pakistan's Punjab province. Condemning the destruction and desecration of Nankana Sahib Gurdwara by a mob, Rahul Gandhi said, "bigotry knows no boundary". On Friday evening, the gurudwara was attacked by a huge mob while Sikh devotees were stuck inside the shrine. Nankana Sahib Stone Pelting: Captain Amarinder Singh Writes to Pak PM Imran Khan, Appeals to Save Historic Gurdwara and Rescue Devotees.

"The attack on Nankana Sahab is reprehensible & must be condemned unequivocally. Bigotry is a dangerous, age old poison that knows no borders. Love + Mutual Respect + Understanding is its only known antidote (sic)," Rahul Gandhi tweeted. The Wayanad lawmaker's tweet came moments after Union Minister and Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Badal said that "his silence on the incident reveals his anti-Sikh fae". Gurdwara Nankana Sahib 'Untouched And Undamaged': Pakistan Government.

"Cong leader @RahulGandhi's refusal to condemn stoning of #GurdwaraNankanaSahib & threat to the very existence of holy shrine reveals his anti-Sikh face. Rahul working overtime to mislead ppl on #CAA but has no time to take on Pak & expose atrocities it's committing against Sikhs (sic)," Harsimrat Badal said on Twitter. She sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure safety of Sikhs in Pakistan.

Scores of protesters surrounded the Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and raised communal and hateful slogans against the Sikh community. Videos of stone-pelting on the holy shrine were also surfaced. According to reports, the mob attack was led by the family of Mohammed Hassan, the man who had abducted and converted a Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur to Islam, to protest police action against him.

Pakistan's Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee President Satpal Singh asked the Imran Khan government to act against the hooligans to restore peace. In an official statement, India's Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the attack on Nankana Sahib Gurdwara.
