New Delhi, Sep 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate his 68th birthday on September 17 with children in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. According to reports, the Prime Minister will cut his birthday cake with children of a school in Varanasi and will later announce a slew of development schemes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observes the Prime Minister's birthday, as ‘Sewa Diwas’ across the nation. Party leaders organise various welfare programmes like cleanliness drives and blood donation camps across India.

PM Modi is scheduled to reach Varanasi for a two-day visit on Monday afternoon where he will visit Narur village, where he will interact with children of a primary school, aided by the non-profit organisation "Room to Read".

Some of these projects include inauguration of a ring road and foundation stone-laying ceremony of two hospitals for women, worth Rs. 20 crore each. The Prime Minister is also expected to lay the foundation stone for a cancer hospital, which is estimated to cost Rs. 600 crores. He is also likely to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and start corridor construction of the temple.

According to a report by PTI, among the projects to be inaugurated by Modi are Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for Puraani Kashi and an Atal Incubation Centre at BHU. Among the projects for which the foundation stones will be laid is the Regional Ophthalmology Centre at BHU.

Later in the day, PM Modi is likely to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and participate in the event to start corridor construction of the temple and is also believed to address a gathering at the Banaras Hindu University, said informed sources. On Tuesday, Modi will inaugurate or lay the foundation of various development projects, cumulatively worth more than Rs 500 crore, according to a statement by the prime minister's office.
