According to Jain, CCTV footage captured the accident at around 4:39 pm, but authorities have failed to identify the accused biker because the motorcycle’s registration number could not be clearly seen due to poor camera quality.
Her husband, Sandeep Kumar Jain, questioned the effectiveness of the city’s surveillance infrastructure, saying the accident occurred in broad daylight on one of Navi Mumbai’s most monitored roads, yet the culprit remains unidentified. Police have registered an FIR against an unknown biker at NRI police station for reckless driving. Investigating officer Kiran Swar said officials are examining CCTV footage but the bike number plate is not visible in the recordings.
The incident has also triggered criticism over the quality of CCTV surveillance systems installed across Navi Mumbai. Social activists and residents have demanded better high-definition cameras and improved monitoring systems to help identify offenders in hit-and-run cases and traffic violations.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kailas Shinde said CCTV maintenance is currently handled by a private agency, while activists argued that poor-quality surveillance defeats the purpose of having an extensive citywide camera network.
