The May 2024 Pune Porsche Crash

The case stems from a fatal accident that took place in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area during the early hours of May 19, 2024. According to investigators, a 17-year-old minor, identified as Vishal Agarwal’s son, was allegedly driving an unregistered Porsche Taycan Turbo S at high speed after consuming alcohol at pubs despite being underage.

Police alleged that the luxury vehicle rammed into a motorcycle carrying two software engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24 years old and originally from Madhya Pradesh. The two victims died at the scene.

The incident drew nationwide attention after the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the minor within hours of the crash, reportedly directing him to write a 300-word essay on road safety as part of the conditions. Subsequent investigations expanded into allegations of a larger conspiracy to influence the probe.

Investigators accused Vishal Agarwal and other family members of attempting to manipulate evidence, including allegations that hospital staff were bribed to alter blood samples connected to alcohol testing. Police also alleged that the family pressured their household driver to falsely take responsibility for the crash. The investigation led to arrests involving family members, hospital personnel and intermediaries accused of participating in the alleged cover-up.

Vishal Agarwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court on March 10, 2026, after spending nearly 22 months in custody in connection with charges related to criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and bribery. Reports indicated that the court considered the duration of pre-trial detention and the bail granted to other accused individuals while granting relief. His wife was also later released on bail. The criminal trial connected to the crash and the alleged cover-up remains ongoing.
