Mumbai, July 9: In a tragic incident in Navi Mumbai, a couple was washed away into the river while crossing a bridge in Panvel. Their bodies are yet to be recovered, noted officials, adding that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been roped in for the search operation.

The incident was reported on Tuesday morning, at around 7:30 am, when the couple were crossing in Umroli village, located nearly 15 km away from the Panvel city. Mumbai-Pune Rail Route Affected as Heavy Rains Trigger Landslide Near Monkey Hill

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Aditya Amre and wife Sarika Amre, 28. A preliminary probe has revealed that the incident occurred on a bridge without railing located on the Matheran Road in Umroli village.

The river, which was swollen, was barely flowing over the bridge when the couple were crossing. However, the current became strong all of a sudden which ended up swiping the deceased into the river.

“The fire brigade officials are now searching for the missing couple in the river. An NDRF from Khopoli has also been called in,” an official was reported as saying. He further added that the couple were not locals and had recently shifted to the village living in a house on rent.
