A 56-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) attached to the Special Branch of the Navi Mumbai Police allegedly died by suicide by hanging at a lodge in Rabale, Navi Mumbai, police said. Before his death, the officer purportedly recorded a video accusing three police personnel, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and a head clerk, of harassment, while appealing to Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe for justice.

Police received information about the incident and arrived at Sachi Lodge in Rabale, where the officer was found hanging, Times of India reported. Before the incident, the deceased officer recorded a video stating that he had prepared an eight-page letter detailing his grievances against senior officials and department staff. In the video circulated online, he directly addressed Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe to request an inquiry into the alleged harassment.

Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe confirmed the fatality and stated that authorities were actively searching for the physical copy of the document. β€œUnfortunately, it was a suicide. However, a video of his has gone viral in which he makes certain allegations and mentions the names of three people. The details are apparently contained in an eight-page letter. We are currently waiting to receive that letter. Navi Mumbai Police stated that their primary focus remains securing the detailed letter to verify the allegations before taking official action. The claims made against the named senior officers and the clerk are currently subject to independent verification.

Asked about the allegations against the police personnel named in the video and purported note, Bharambe said the immediate priority was to obtain the letter. β€œOnce we receive it, we will verify its contents and examine the allegations made in it. Based on that, further action will be decided,” he said.
