NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam: NTA Denies Claims of OMR Sheet Replacement for Candidate Avaneesh Srivastava With Ajeet Singh
The NTA has refuted claims of OMR tampering in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, dismissing a viral OMR sheet as a digitally altered fabrication. After reviewing the case of candidate Avneesh Srivastava, officials confirmed the original results remain valid. The agency has warned against submitting manipulated documents and continues to investigate reported score discrepancies.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has strongly refuted allegations of Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet tampering in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination process. The agency’s response follows accusations from the Congress party, which claimed that the answer sheet of a Re-NEET candidate, Avaneesh Srivastava, had been replaced with that of another individual, Ajeet Singh.
NTA sources said that the image being circulated on social media is not the OMR sheet on record with the NTA. "It is a digitally altered version," they said. The sources further said that the circulated image contains "wrong serial numbers, spelling mistakes in the instructions at the top of the sheet, and incorrect field labels". "Ajeet Singh, son of Lakhan Singh and Reena Singh,” appearing on the viral image, does not correspond to any candidate registered for NEET (UG) 2026, the NTA Sources added. Allegations and Political Criticism
The controversy gained momentum after the Congress party shared a video statement on social media featuring the father of Avneesh Srivastava. In the video, the father alleged that the OMR sheet provided to his son by the NTA belonged to another candidate. The party used the incident to criticise the NTA’s management of the examination and questioned the accountability of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Meanwhile, the NTA continues to scrutinise various complaints of score mismatches reported by candidates across several states. As part of its investigation into fraudulent claims, the agency has reiterated that students should only submit original OMR documents for verification, as some of the sheets previously submitted for review were found to be artificially produced or manipulated.
