Mumbai, July 24: Netflix, the video streaming app, launched a mobile-only subscription plan in India for Rs 199 per month on an experimental basis on Wednesday. The latest plan from Netflix for India, one of its largest growing markets, has drawn comparisons with other plans on the video streaming platform available for subscribers. The lower-priced plan also offers a Rs 199 per month subscription. The Rs 199 plan will only be available on a single mobile device and stream at 480p quality. Netflix Testing New Weekly Subscription Plans From Rs 65 For Indian Users.

The video streaming giant currently offers three monthly plans of Rs 499, Rs 649 and Rs 799. The new plan is for Rs 199 per month.

The new plan introduced by Netflix in India is to take on rival online video streaming platforms like Hotstar and Amazon. According to a Bloomberg report, Netflix Inc. shocked investors last week by reporting a loss of 130,000 customers in U.S. customers and a much slower growth overseas, thus raising fears that the streaming giant is losing momentum.

For the first time in eight years, Netflix is losing customers in the US market. Experts say that Netflix is now looking towards the developing countries and emerging markets by coming up with customised plans for consumers in these markets.
