Noida, March 22: A young woman committed suicide on Friday by jumping in front of a metro train in Uttar Pradesh's Noida. The episode took place at Sector 16 metro station. According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Sheetal Shrivastav, a resident of Sector 22. After the occurrence, passengers were evacuated from the metro station.

The incident had caused a significant delay in the blue line of Delhi Metro. Police officials are present at the spot (when the report was published), and the body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem. It is not the first time that a person has committed suicide by jumping off the train. Last year, an RTI filed by The Indian Express showed that a total of 83 people had committed suicide across 58 Delhi Metro stations since 2014. The maximum suicides, 32 cases, were reported in the Blue Line.

The maximum number of suicides, four people killing themselves at each station, were witnessed in Janakpuri West and Subhash Nagar Metro stations. According to RTI, nine suicides took place in 2014, which increased to 24 in 2015. The numbers were dropped to 15 in 2016 and 19 in 2017. In 2018, 16 persons had committed suicide until October.
