Odisha S*x Racket Busted: WhatsApp, Instagram Used To Book Women for ‘Doorstep Delivery’ in Bolangir

A shocking alleged online s*x racket has come to light in Odisha’s Bolangir, where WhatsApp and Instagram were reportedly used to share photographs of women, negotiate prices and book customers, while the actual transactions allegedly took place offline.

According to the police investigation, the alleged racket operated through an online network, Odishatv reported. Bengali women were reportedly accommodated at a hotel near Bolangir railway station and allegedly sent to customers’ locations by a middleman on a motorcycle. The alleged modus operandi was simple: online booking followed by offline, doorstep delivery.

WhatsApp, Instagram Allegedly Used To Book Women

Customers were reportedly shown photographs of the women through WhatsApp and Instagram. After a customer selected a woman, the alleged kingpin negotiated the price with them online.

Once the deal was finalised, the woman staying at the hotel was allegedly sent to the customer’s address through a middleman. Minor’s Complaint Exposed Alleged S*x Racket

The alleged kingpin came under the police scanner after a complaint was lodged at Town Police Station accusing her of involving a minor girl in the alleged s*x trade and allegedly causing her to become pregnant.

Police subsequently detained the woman and examined her mobile phone. The investigation reportedly revealed details of the alleged racket and its online operation.

The women were allegedly kept at a hotel in the city, while the alleged kingpin remained in online contact with the women, middlemen and customers without directly appearing at the locations.

A hotel manager reportedly explained how the alleged operation was being conducted after Bengali women were rescued from the hotel.

Questions Raised Over Hotel’s Alleged Role

The hotel near Bolangir railway station allegedly served as a base for the women involved in the racket. While cases have reportedly been registered against six people in connection with the alleged s*x racket, questions have been raised over why no action has been taken against the hotel.

Hotels are required to maintain and submit daily details of their guests to the police. However, allegations have surfaced that the hotel did not comply with the requirement.

A lawyer has questioned why police have not taken action against the hotel despite the allegations. The district president of the hotel owners’ association has also called for action against hotels found to be involved in such activities.

Meanwhile, women social activists have strongly opposed the alleged s*x trade in a culturally significant city like Bolangir and demanded strict action against those involved.
