Islamabad, April 5: The Pakistani government on Friday announced the release of 360 Indian prisoners on completion of their sentences. The decision has been taken three days after India issued a note verbale - an unsigned diplomatic correspondence - asking Islamabad to release 400 Indian prisoners lodged in their jails despite completing their sentence of 4-5 years.

A statement issued on Radio Pakistan -- the official radio broadcaster of the neighbouring nation -- said that the fishermen would be sent back beginning from Monday, April 8. Pakistan Could Be Blacklisted by FATF Due to 'Lobbying by India', Says Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Update by ANI:

The list submitted by India to the Pakistan High Commission last week named 385 fishermen, who were detained by their authorities after illegally venturing into their waters; along with 5 other Indian prisoners who have completed their sentence after committing for miscellaneous offences.

"The Ministry conveys its deep concern over the long pending release and repatriation of Indian civilian prisoners and fishermen with their boats held under Pakistan custody despite completion of sentence and nationality confirmation," the Indian note verbale had reportedly said.

Apart from seeking the release of 385 fishermen, India had also sought consular access for 10 other prisoners, including former naval commander Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is on death row in Pakistan.
