Ashok Anand secured 13,358 votes, while Vinayagam received 4,876 votes, according to the Election Commission of India’s constituency-wise results. DMK candidate K. Sethu Selvam finished third with 2,664 votes.

The by-election was necessitated after Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy vacated the Thattanchavady seat while retaining the Mangalam constituency, which he had also won in the Assembly elections. Polling took place across 31 polling stations on October 6, with a voter turnout of 80.81%. The counting process was scheduled for October 9.
