Jodhpur, June 2: World famous folk dancer Queen Harish and three other artists died after a road accident near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Sunday morning. In the incident, five other people were also injured. The injured have been shifted in a hospital for the medical treatment. The episode took place near Kaparda village in Jodhpur when the victims were en route to Ajmer from Jaisalmer in an SUV. Rajasthan: Truck Rams Into Marriage Procession, 13 killed, 18 Injured.

"Their vehicle rammed into a stationary truck which left Harish, Ravindra, Bhikhe Khan and Latif Khan dead. Five others were injured in the mishap," Sitaram Khoja, Station house officer (SHO) of Bilara police station said. Preliminary investigations show that artists were travelling for an event.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has condoled the deaths of folk artists. "The death of four persons including the famous artist Queen Harish in a road accident in Jodhpur is very sad. Dedicated to the folk art and culture of Rajasthan, Harish gave a new identity to Jaisalmer with his different dance style. His death is a big loss to the field of folk art," Gehlot said.

Harish Kumar, popularly known as Queen Harish, was a native of Jaisalmer. His shows included various folk dance forms like Kalbelia, Ghoomar, Bhawai, Chang, Chari among others. Queen Harish had gained recognition across the world for his folk dance skills.
