Shakeel Noorani Arrested: 73-Year-Old Bollywood Filmmaker Taken Into Custody Over S*xual Assault Allegations

Veteran Bollywood director and producer Shakeel Noorani has been arrested by the Mumbai Police following serious allegations physical harassment filed by a 33-year-old actress. The 73-year-old filmmaker was apprehended from a farmhouse in Satara and subsequently produced before a holiday court, which remanded him in police custody until August 12.

According to the police complaint, the victim stated that the harassment began after she met Noorani at an awards show in Lokhandwala back in 2016. Malwani police registered a formal first information report against the director under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering charges related to assault, administering noxious substances, criminal intimidation, and endangering life. As per a report by India TV Hindi, investigators tracked Noorani's location to a remote farmhouse in the Medha area of Satara district, executing a swift arrest with local assistance before transferring him to Mumbai for judicial proceedings.

Noorani is widely recognized in the Hindi film industry for directing and producing notable 1990s and 2000s commercial projects, including Bade Dilwala and Joru Ka Ghulam. Law enforcement authorities have indicated that further investigations are actively underway to examine the full scope of the allegations as the director remains in custody through mid-August.
