New Delhi, Sep 19: After an outbreak of swine flu in Maharashtra, H1N1 Influenza cases have been reported from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Earlier this month, 222 positive cases of the H1N1 virus were reported from Maharashtra. Reports inform that 48 people died because of swine flu out of which 18 are from Pune and its neighbouring areas. After Punjab received its first swine flu (H1N1 Influenza) case on Wednesday, the state government has intensified surveillance across the state and have put medical facilities including hospitals and chemist shops on high alert.

Reports inform that the first case of swine flu in Punjab has come to light from Patiala’s Nabha town where a 50-year-old woman was tested positive for the disease. The woman was then admitted to a private hospital in Chandigarh’s in SAS Nagar for treatment. Reports informed that samples of the woman were sent to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh which confirmed swine flu. Swine flu symptoms include cold, high-grade fever, cough, sore throat, breathlessness, runny nose, body ache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. Doctors across the state have been directed to provide immediate health care to anyone who complains of these symptoms. Individuals can take precautions by washing hands properly, by using sanitisers and avoid visiting crowded places.

According to a report by TOI, Punjab’s National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme’s Dr Gagandeep Singh Grover informed that the woman had returned with high fever after a 20-day visit to Uttar Pradesh. Reports inform that all precautionary measures have been taken by the state government to deal with swine flu.

Meanwhile, Noida reported its first swine flu death on Wednesday. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the 59-year old deceased was a resident of Allahabad who stayed with his son in Sector 99, Noida. After complaining of cough of cold, the man was admitted to Fortis hospital in Noida three days before he died. The report informed that the death was confirmed by the health department and stated that the deceased lost h The patient died of multiple organ failure on September 11 at a private hospital in the city.
