The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has warned that the swine flu outbreak in China can soon spread to the other parts of Asia. According to an Agence France-Presse, China is currently facing an outbreak of African swine flu and has culled 24,000 pigs in to stop the spread of the disease. The outbreak was reported first in early  August in China and the authorities in the Liaoning province immediately started culling hogs to contain the contagion.

The FAO has said that the cases of swine flu have been detected in more than 1,000 kilometres, which could mean that the flu can spread across national borders. The organisation added that the diverse geographic spread of the outbreaks in the country has raised concerned about its possible proliferation to the nearby regions of Southeast Asia or the Korean Peninsula. According to FAO, there’s an increased chance of contagion in these areas since the consumption and trade of pork products are high. The first case of African swine flu was reported in the northeast province of Liaoning earlier in August. The city of Lianyungang in the eastern region of China culled around 14,500 hogs to control the spread.

This warning is a sign that you must follow the tips for prevention against the disease. According to WHO, 'Administrative controls are key components in infection prevention strategies and include implementation and facilitation of IC precautions; patient triage for early detection, patient

placement and reporting; organization of services; policies on rational use of available supplies; policies on patient procedures; and strengthening of IC infrastructure. Environmental/engineering controls, such as basic HCF infrastructure, adequate environmental ventilation, proper patient placement and adequate environmental cleaning can help reduce the

spread of some pathogens during health care. Rational use of available personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate hand hygiene also

help reduce the spread of infection.' Over 54,000 People Given Swine Flu Vaccine in Maha: Minister
