Chennai, August 23: A high alert has been sounded across Tamil Nadu after information was received that six terrorists of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba have infiltrated into India via Sri Lanka possibly to carry out attacks. According to reports, intelligence agencies say that the six-member group intruded into Tamil Nadu via Sri Lanka and had settled in Coimbatore.

One of the six terrorists is a Pakistan national, identified as Illyas Anwar, reports said. Other five are Sri Lankan. According to the alert, suspected terrorists are in the disguise of Hindus with vibhuti or tilak smeared on their foreheads. Following the terror alert, all police officers in Coimbatore have been ordered to stay vigilant. The police have decided to increase patrolling in sensitive areas and public places.

Security has been enhanced in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh after intelligence inputs that four Afghan terrorists have infiltrated into India along with an agent of Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI. "There is a terrorist threat, in Sirohi and in areas in Rajasthan. That's why security has been put in place," Jaisalmer Inspector Kishan Singh told news agency ANI on Thursday.

All district superintendents of police in Rajasthan have been asked to remain fully alert. Law enforcement agencies are on their toes in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh as well. The Gujarat Police have been conducting extensive checking at all inter-state border checkpoints. Security sources have also warned that Pakistan is planning to push 100 hardcore terrorists from Afghanistan into Kashmir to carry out attacks as part of its “larger design” to create unrest in the Valley. In addition, around 15 Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists are already waiting at the terror launch-pads in Lipa valley along the Line of Control on the Pakistani side to infiltrate in Kashmir, they said, citing reports by intelligence agencies.
