Chennai, January 1: Tamil writer Nellai Kannan was arrested in Perambalur, Tamil Nadu, after an FIR was filed against him for his alleged speech during a protest meeting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on December 29, 2019. The famous orator and Tamil writer allegedly made controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah at the anti-CAA protest event. Tirunelveli Police had registered an FIR against Tamil writer Nellai Kannan for his speech. The meeting was called by the Social Democratic Party of India on December 29. Police booked him on the basis of multiple complaints filed by BJP leaders. A video of Kannan's speech went viral after his speech at the meet in Tirunelveli on Saturday. Kannan was speaking at the event, along with other leaders of the SDPI.

“There is one guy called Amit Shah. (Modi) is the Prime Minister but (Amit Shah) is his brains. If Amit Shah is finished off then Modi is finished too. Leave that be to one side,” he allegedly said in the meeting, reported The News Minute.
