A 23-year-old pregnant woman died by suicide in Telangana’s Medak district after her husband allegedly questioned the paternity of their unborn child and demanded a DNA test. Following the incident, local authorities arrested the woman's husband and mother-in-law on Saturday on charges related to domestic cruelty and abetment of suicide, as reported by TOI. The victim, identified as G. Sushmita, was found dead on the evening of June 25 at her residence in Gadipeddapur village, located in the Alladurg mandal of Medak district. Sushmita was five months pregnant at the time.

According to a formal police complaint filed by the victim’s mother, G. Janabai, the fatal step followed a severe domestic dispute that occurred two days prior. On June 23, Sushmita’s parents visited the residence to finalize arrangements for an upcoming traditional baby shower ceremony. During this visit, an argument broke out regarding the event. Haryana: 6-Month-Pregnant Woman Killed by Husband Following Argument in Faridabad.

The complaint alleges that during the confrontation, Sushmita's husband, G. Abhilash, publicly demanded a DNA test to prove the paternity of the unborn child. Although village elders intervened at the time to de-escalate the dispute, family members stated that the public humiliation profoundly affected Sushmita.

Following Sushmita's death, the Alladurg police initiated an investigation based on the family's testimony. The victim's mother alleged a continuous pattern of physical and mental harassment directed at Sushmita by both her husband and her mother-in-law, Laxmi. Bijnor Shocker: 8-Month Pregnant Woman Smothered to Death by Husband After Altercation in Uttar Pradesh, Accused Arrested.

On June 26, local authorities registered a criminal case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The suspects were booked under Section 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting a woman to cruelty) and Section 108 (abetment of suicide), read alongside Section 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

Alladurg Sub-Inspector D. Shankar confirmed that both Abhilash, who works locally as a bangle seller, and his mother were taken into custody on Saturday. "They were produced before the magistrate and sent to judicial remand," SI Shankar stated.

Sushmita, a native of Mothkupally village in the neighboring Vikarabad district, had been married to Abhilash for approximately 18 months. Following the completion of the required post-mortem examination at a local government medical facility, authorities handed the victim's body over to her parental family for final rites.
