Mumbai, December 4: A 26-year-old youth was awarded life sentence by the district and sessions court of Khowai for alleging killing his mother in Tripura's Agartala. As per reports, the man killed his mother after the two had a fight over him visiting Saraswati Puja pandal on a motorbike. Police officials said that the incident took place on February 16 last year when the man wanted to visit the pandal with his friends.

According to a report in the Times of India, the accused has been identified as Maran Debnath. The court convicted the Debnath for allegedly killing his wife. However, Suniti did not allow Debnath to take the bike as he had met with a road accident a few days ago. Instead of asking him to go on bike, Suniti asked Debnath to visit the pandal on foot with his sister. Furious with his mother, Debnath allegedly attacked his mother and sister with a stick.

While his sister managed to escape, Suniti took a hit and became unconscious. After the incident, Debnath and other family members rushed Suniti to a hospital nearby after which she succumbed to her injuries three days later. After the incident, Suniti's husband Rajkumar Debnath lodged a complaint against his son. After the incident, Debnath was on the run, however, he surrendered before the police. Post which, the court allowed Debnath's custodial trial. Debnath was sentenced to life imprisonment under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
