Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday condemned the alleged harassment and molestation of a Class 10 girl in Bihar’s Jamui after a video of the incident surfaced online. Rahul Gandhi Condemns Jamui Viral Video
Reacting to the video on X, Rahul Gandhi said two Class 10 students had been stopped on a road and allegedly harassed and humiliated. He said the girl could be seen pleading to be allowed to leave while people in the group allegedly groped and dragged her.
“Who gave these men the right to behave like this?” Gandhi asked, adding that such conduct should not be described as culture.
He further described the behaviour as reflecting what he called patriarchal attitudes and said every person seen in the video should be identified and prosecuted under POCSO.

What Happened in Jamui?
The incident reportedly took place on the evening of September 19 when a Class 10 boy and girl were returning after attending coaching classes. According to reports, the two were travelling on a scooter when a group of youths allegedly stopped them on the Jamui-Lakhisarai road.
Videos circulating on social media purportedly show the students being surrounded and confronted by several people. The girl is seen pleading with the group, while some individuals allegedly physically assault the boy and harass the girl.
The exact circumstances and authenticity of all footage circulating online have not been independently verified. However, police have taken cognisance of the videos and begun an investigation.
Jamui Police Register FIR, Three Arrested
Jamui Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident. According to the latest reports, seven people have been named in the case and three have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the others allegedly involved.
Police have also recorded the statements of the two minor victims and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The case has been registered under provisions of the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to reports. Authorities have said the identities of the minor victims are being kept confidential.
Investigation Underway Into Viral Video
The incident took place in the border area between Jamui and Lakhisarai and falls under the jurisdiction of Jamui Town police station, according to a police official quoted by IANS. Police are continuing efforts to identify and arrest the remaining suspects and establish the full sequence of events. The circulation of videos involving minors has also raised concerns about their privacy. The victims’ identities and other details that could reveal their identities should not be disclosed while the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
