Patna, September 23: A Zomato user in the Bihar capital ended up losing Rs 77,000 while attempting to seek Rs 100 refund from the food delivery app. The fraud victim, identified as Vishnu, is employed as an engineer with a firm in Patna. He had ordered food for Rs 100 using the Zomato mobile application. When the parcel reached his doorstep, Vishnu found the food quality "sub-standard" and decided to return the same. The incident happened on September 10, said reports on Monday, claiming that Vishnu has since approached the local police station, bank branch and the Zomato customer care. He is yet to recover the money he lost through fraudulent means.

On the unfateful day, Vishnu had used a Zomato offer to order food for Rs 100. When the delivery boy came, he decided to return the food to him citing the poor quality. The delivery boy, however, asked Vishnu to go to Zomato customer care and apply for refund as the money was paid by him online.

Vishnu searched for "Zomato Customer Care" on Google and ended up clicking at a malicious link. He called up at a number where he was asked to deposit Rs 10 at a stated bank account number in order to receive Rs 100 as refund.

Without contemplating, Vishnu complied with the directive and ended up clicking at the link where he was instructed how to deposit Rs 10 as the refund processing fee. Within minutes, he lost Rs 77,000 from his bank account through a spree of fraudulent PayTM transactions, India Today reported.
