Kohima, Mar 11: Eleven MLAs of the Naga People's Front (NPF) - the prime opposition in the state - have demanded the newly elected government to assign them Toyota Innova Crysta as their official vehicles, instead of Renault Duster, which the Cabinet is reportedly planning to allocate.

In a letter written to Commissioner & Secretary of the Nagaland legislative assembly, the MLAs said they would "not accept" Renault Duster due to maintenance issues.

Not only the legislators have asked for Innova Crysta, a premium class SUV, they have explicitly sought the "top model" of the car. "Arrangement may kindly be made for allotment of Toyota -  Innova Crysta (Top Model) to all of us (sic)," said the letter jointly written by the MLAs.

The top model of Innova Crysta reportedly costs Rs 22.15 lakh, whereas, the Renault Duster (top model) is currently priced at Rs 12 lakh.

The newly elected assembly had reportedly made an order of 60 Renault Dusters at a collective amount of Rs 7.8 crores.

The matter has drawn flak towards NPF, which was the ruling party for the last 15 years. In the assembly polls held last month, the party led by T R Zeliang fall minutely short from clinching a fourth consecutive term.

The NPF won 26 seats, whereas, the BJP-NDPP combine bagged 29. The latter were later supported one JD(U) MLA and two independents, which allowed them to cross the majority mark of 31 seats in the 60-member assembly. Neiphiu Rio, the NDPP president, was elected as the Chief Minister.
