New Delhi, December 11: As per the trends which have emerged so far from the five states which went to polls, the Congress is headed for a clean sweep win in the Hindi Heartland, with the BJP-ruled states Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan likely to be wrested by the grand old party.

In the Northeast however, the Congress is set to lose power in Mizoram, whereas, Mizo National Front was leading in 27 of the 40 seats by the time this report was first published. In Telangana, the TRS was headed for two=third majority victory, as per the trends which poured in by 11:30am. Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018: Congress Crosses Halfway Majority Mark, Set to Form Next Government.

Who Will be the Next Chief Minister in MP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana?

- In Madhya Pradesh, the contest is between party's state unit chief Kamal Nath and Congress' MP campaign in-charge Jyotiraditya Scindia. If the BJP ends up retaining -- as the poll remains too close to call -- Shivraj Singh Chouhan would take oath as the CM for the fourth consecutive time.

- In Chhattisgarh, where the Congress is headed for nearly a two-third majority win, the party is likely to appoint its senior most leader Bhupesh Baghel as the Chief Minister. TS Singhdeo, the Leader of Opposition in the outgoing assembly, along with Durg MP Tamradhwaj Sahu are among the other likely contenders.

- In Rajasthan, where the Congress is likely to emerge as the winner, the contest for the chief ministerial post is primarily between former CM Ashok Gehlot and party's state unit president Sachin Pilot.

- In Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would take oath again as the TRS has been handed a brute mandate by the state's electorate.

- In Meghalaya, former CM Zoramthanga, the chief of Mizo National Front (MNF), is likely to be sworn-in as the next CM. His party has won 29 seats in the state's assembly.

If the current trends turn out to be accurate, the Congress is likely to emerge as the biggest gainer -- as it is set to win Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
