Mumbai, September 27: The Ballarpur assembly seat in Maharashtra went to polls on October 21. In Ballarpur constituency, the electoral contest was between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. The BJP had support from the Shiv Sena, while the Congress was backed by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). According to the Election Commission’s schedule for Maharashtra assembly elections, the last date for filing nomination papers was October 4. Nominations were scrutinised on October 5. The last date for withdrawal of candidature was October 7. Voting took place at as many as 90,403 polling stations on October 7. The Election Commission announced results on October 24. In the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 122 seats. The Shiv Sena came second with 63 seats. The Congress and NCP bagged 42 and 41 seats respectively. All four parties contested polls without forming alliances. Bahujan Vikash Aghadi and the PWP won three seats each, while the AIMIM secured two seats.

Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh, Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM, Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Rashtriya Samaj Paksha and Samajwadi Party (SP) won one seat each. Seven Independents were also elected.
