The Congress has called for Bharat Bandh- a nationwide protest amid the growing fuel prices in the country. Prices of petrol and diesel have spiralled out of control in the past few days and the rupee continues to get weaker by touching a life-time low of Rs 71 against dollar. Several parties like the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazagham), Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have announced their support to the Bandh or protests. Top opposition party leaders like Sharad Pawar, M K Stalin and left leaders have openly extended their support for the call for shut down, while the Trinamool Congress has decided to stay away from the protest. More pictures of protests from across the country is expected throughout the day. In Karnataka, schools and colleges will remain closed on Monday in the wake of Bandh. Petrol and diesel prices continue to grow as Petrol touched at Rs 80.73/litre (increase by Rs 0.23/litre) and diesel at Rs 72.83/litre (increase by Rs 0.22/litre) in Delhi. Petrol at Rs 88.12/litre (increase by Rs 0.23/litre) and diesel at Rs 77.32/litre (increase by Rs 0.23/litre) in Mumbai on Monday.
