Bengaluru, April 16: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka. The second list of BJP comprises names of candidates from 82 constituencies. The party, in the past week, had released its first list of 72 candidates.

The BJP list comes a day after the rival, Congress party, released its first list of candidates for 218 out of the 224 constituencies. The BJP's Central Election Committee held a meeting on Sunday for finalising the names to be included in the second list. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended the meeting last night.

The assembly polls in Karnataka witnesses a sharp contest between the Siddaramaiah-led Congress and the Yeddyurappa-led BJP. Senior leaders from both the sides are camping in the state, with less than a month left for the elections.

The elections are scheduled to be held on May 12. The Election Commission will begin the counting of votes on May 15. The first major opinion poll released last week gave Congress the edge, but predicted a hung assembly with the third front of Janata Dal (Secular) winning as many as 40 seats.
