New Delhi, December 12: The Congress emerged as the winner in the Assembly Elections 2018 as the party won two out of five states that went to polls. The Congress has won Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Polls, pushing Bharatiya Janata Party out of power in these states. In Mizoram, the Congress was decimated by the Mizo National Front. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) swept the Telangana Assembly Polls. Madhya Pradesh witnessed a hung Assembly with a neck and neck fight between the Congress and BJP. The BJP received a huge setback, especially as the Vidhan Sabha elections were being seen as a precursor to the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Pollsters also saw it as a jolt to the 'Modi wave' and a sign of the rise of Rahul Gandhi. While the Congress office in Delhi saw celebrations with sweets and firecrackers, the BJP office wore a deserted look. Rahul Gandhi Speaks on Assembly Elections 2018 Results, Thanks Outgoing CMs For 'Good Work Done' in MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Calls PM Narendra Modi 'Corrupt'.

The BSP has won 2 while the Independents have won 4 seats in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress is set to form the next government here as the BSP and SP have announced support for the party.

Rajasthan Election Results

The Congress, led by Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot, decimated the Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in Rajasthan as the party, along with its allies RLD and RLP, won more than 101 seats in the 199-seat Rajasthan Assembly. Even as the Congress won the state, the BJP, to the poll pundits' surprise, put up a difficult fight in Rajasthan. While Raje won her seat Jhalrapatan, she lost the state. On the other hand, it now remains to be seen whether Sachin Pilot takes the CM chair in Rajasthan or is it party's veteran leader Ashok Gehlot. The Congress, meanwhile, has also called out for support from "anti-BJP forces". Speculation is rife that Congress President Rahul Gandhi may choose Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Vasundhara Raje Concedes Defeat, Submits Resignation to Governor.
