Ranchi, April 29: Voting for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded today. In Jharkhand, the polling took place in three parliamentary constituencies -  Chatra, Lohardaga and Palamu. A total 45,26,693 voters, including 23,85,932 men, 21,40,750 women and 11 members of the third gender, were eligible to exercise their franchise in the fourth phase for which 3,013 polling booths were set up. In the run-up to the forthcoming general elections, the Congress has kept its alliance intact with the JMM. There were a total of 59 candidates in the fray for these three parliamentary seats of the state. Meanwhile, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Jharkhand, similar to other parts of the Hindi heartland, was swept by the Narendra Modi wave. The BJP won 12 seats in the state, whereas, the remaining 2 were retained by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, an ally of the Congress.

The general elections in Jharkhand are taking place in four phases. In the fourth phase of the parliamentary elections, three seats were being contested, in the fifth and sixth phase each, the voting will take place in four seats, while in the seventh phase, remaining three seats will go to polls.

The Lok Sabha Elections 2019 is taking place in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23 and the results are expected on the same day. The Model Code of Conduct has immediately come into force after the announcement of the polling dates.
