Kolkata, January 30: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday came down heavily on BJP national President Amit  Shah for alleging that the West Bengal CM sold her paintings to chit fund owners. Banerjee dared Amit Shah to prove his claims and said that the BJP president should quit politics if he fails to do so. Addressing a public meeting in Birbhum district, Banerjee criticised Amit Shah for his comment in which Shah had said that the West Bengal government copied central government schemes and alleging that Durga and Saraswati pujas are not held and celebrated widely in West Bengal.

“Some half-educated and illiterate leaders from Delhi are saying I have taken money from my paintings. Prove it that I have taken a single paisa into my account. I challenge you to prove it. They are speaking in an uncivilised manner without showing evidence. Our party has sent a notice to him yesterday. If needed we will file a defamation suit against him,” said Banerjee at the public meeting. Amit Shah Rally in West Bengal: BJP President Attacks Mamata Banerjee Over NRC, Says There Are Winds of Change in State.

The BJP and the TMC are fighting openly ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. On Tuesday, reports of vehicles parked near Amit Shah's rally venue in East Midnapore, West-Bengal were found vandalized after the BJP  president's rally earlier in the day on Tuesday. BJP's Rahul Sinha blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for vandalising the vehicles and said that the "attackers didn't even spare women workers." Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP National General Secretary, warned West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee following the violence and said that "BJP workers will not be afraid of such attacks" and said that "Banerjee will have to pay a heavy price for this act."
