Kohima, March 10: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday declared the poll dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. As per the schedule, voting in Northeastern state-Nagaland will take place on April 11, 2019, in a single phase. While, the election for the Lok Sabha for 543 seats will take place in 7 phases and results will be announced on May 23, 2019. Voting In 7 Phases From April 11 to May 19, Counting And Results On May 23; Check All Dates For General Elections.

In 2014, the general elections in Nagaland for Lok Sabha seats were held in a single phase on April 9, 2014. The major political parties in this state are Indian National Congress (INC) and Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF). In the polls, the NPF's Neiphiu Rio defeated Congress' K. V. Pusa by a margin of 400225. The election was also contested by Socialist Party (India). Despite being regular threats from insurgent militants grout in the state, the voters turned out in a large number. According to data, voter turnout in Nagaland was more than 87 per cent, which was highest in the entire country.
