New Delhi, April 6: Shiv Sena’s parliamentary leader and Union Minister of State for HRD Sanjay Raut and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) leader Upendra Khushwaha said that they were unware of Modi government’s announcement of surrendering the salary of 23 days in protest of disruption of proceedings of second half of the budget session by the opposition. Bhartiya Janta Party’s (BJP) biggest ally, Shiv Sena has 18 members in the Lok Sabha and three in the Rajya Sabha. As per report published in Indian Express, salaries and allowances for the 17 days in March that Parliament functioned had been already credited to MPs’ bank accounts. The salaries cannot be auto debited until every MP personally writes to secretariat to deduct the salary for these days.

Yesterday BJP's Member of Parliament (MP) Subramanian Swamy also refused to forgo his salary. Swamy said, “I used to go daily, if House did not run, it is not my fault." The monthly salary of a MP is Rs 50,000 and Rs 45,000 as a constituency allowance. Every MP also gets Rs 2,000 for a day when parliament functions. In addition, parliamentarian also gets Rs 15,000 as office expenses. The cost for each MP for 23 days amounts to Rs 90,000 approx. NDA government has 314 seats in Lok sabha and 80 seats in Rajya Sabha, so the total amount which national democratic Alliance's (NDA) MPs will be getting for 23 days is Rs 3.6 crore approx.

Union minister Ananth Kumar on Wednesday announced that NDA MP’s would forgo their salaries and allowance for 23 days for which parliamentary proceedings disrupted. On Thursday both the houses of the parliament could not function because of opposition’s protest. Yesterday opposition also staged protest a protest near the Gandhi statue outside Parliament over several issues, including farm distress, PNB scam, farmer crisis, no-confidence motion, SC/ST Protection Act and disinvestment of Air India. The budget session of the parliament is ending today.
