New Delhi, December 19: NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson Rajiv Kumar on Wednesday took on Congress president Rahul Gandhi for trying to malign the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government on waiving loans of the farmers.

Reacting back on the tweet of Gandhi – where he boasted Congress governments’ loan waiving schemes in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – Kumar opined that no other Union government has ever worked for farmers as much as the present government is doing. Gujarat and Assam CMs Woke Up but Modi Still Asleep, Says Rahul Gandhi on Farm Loan Waiver.

The NITI Aayog’s Vice Chairperson stated, “No one else accepted recommendations of Swaminathan Commission report, this government did. It raised credit for farmers to Rs 10.50 Lakh Crore. Rahul Gandhi's governments should do their work, others will do theirs.”

The vice chairperson’s comments were a reaction Congress president, as the latter took a jibe at the BJP-led government and challenged them to waive farmers’ loans. He stated that due to the loan waiving schemes of the Congress government, state governments in Gujarat and Assam waived farmers’ loans.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi took to Twitter and wrote, “The Congress party has managed to wake the CM's of Assam & Gujarat from their deep slumber. PM is still asleep. We will wake him up too.”

It is to be known that the Union government and Opposition Congress have attacked each other to solve farmers’ plight in the country. The major tussle between the two national parties is who has waived how much farmers’ loans in the country, under their tenure.
